REBEL 66 of THE BUNDY EMCEES ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Real name, Jamie Burn (REBEL 66) started off emceeing late 1996 at the age of 12 with a few of his fellow College mates who got together as an under 16 youth club Hip Hop group for The railway social every Wednesday night In Pennycomequick, which gave the their group name, P.C.Q.

P.C.Q. consisted of 4 members, Rennicide (now DV8), Baby Bell, Slic Will (now King Helm), Cheeze Blok (REBEL 66). They put together a free promotional 8 track demo titled “The South West Boyz” which wasn’t Hip Hop throughout & was mixed with a few Dance tunes as well. In 1998 all members decided to go their separate ways, Jamie, now changing his name from Cheeze Blok to Scooby (his Graffiti name) & joined forces with another local emcee, Sentex (now Sen) to create the group C-4. Due to many disagreements nothing concrete was ever produced so once again the artists went separate ways & Scooby then changed his name to C.B.S. (Can’t Be Stopped).

In 1999, Jamie started experimenting on the beat creation side of this a bit more until he met another local artist know as Litrogen (Now Litro) & became The Twin Reapers. Not recording a lot they used to perform live mostly at open mic spots around Plymouth such as The Cooperage. But this only lasted a short while, about 6 months & this is when Jamie changed his name for what would be the forth & final time to REBEL 66 with side aliases such as MR Gynaecologist (Love songs) & Evil Bazdid (Emcee battles).

In early 2000 REBEL 66 singed up to mp3.com & by December that year had 3 independent album releases, "bAk In ThA dAy EP" which was a 5 track album of various old tunes & internet battles, Skrap Book Vol.1 which contained tracks which didn’t make it on the third release, REB6LUTION, which was a 11 track LP featuring collaborations with Sentex, Ellie who was a female emcee from Bournemouth & Smiff who was a new emcee to the Plymouth Scene from London.

Jamie joined Smiff’s group, Kolor Blind, which stood for anti racism with 4 other emcees; Jibi from Nigeria, Ex’L from France, ZZ from Italy Papa from Dubai & Ill-Eagle from Wales. They put together a small 4 track demo whilst working together on each others solo projects. Jamie helped in the production of Ex’L’s solo release, “EXpLosive Material” along side Smiff in the Plymouth Art College recording studios. Also Jamie & Smiff would regularly emcee at Plymouth Hip Hop night called Sure shot which was ran by Parker (The cohorts) & alongside emcees such as Milo (The Cohorts) English Bob (another Plymouth emcee) & Lipz.

Kolor Blind Performed for the release of the 8-Mile DVD outside Plymouth’s HMV store in helps of promoting the Movie. Weeks later Jamie & ZZ departed Kolor Blind & teamed up with London emcee, Manage (formally signed to Defcon Records) to create a new group called Tha Paradox.
In 2001 Jamie release Skrap Book Vol.2 through mp3.com & decided to take a solo route departing the group after only 2 songs. Shortly after, Smiff, Jamie, Lipz, Ex’L & J the Prophet went to Candy Store, Plymouth, & performed for the last hour of the Saturday R&B night.

Jamie got back to work in his new self financed home studio & released yet another LP on mp3.com “Daylight Robbery” which contained 12 tracks with many of the usual features from local artists such as Sentex & Smiff. Shortly after its release mp3.com sold up to net firm c.net which closed the site down meaning all the online purchases would cease so Jamie uploaded his music to another site, soundclick.com

In 2002 Jamie went back to College to study a Btec in Modern Music where he met another local artist know as Big G (meaning Big Gob). They worked together on many assignments & Jamie also helped in a lot of the production of Big G’s debut LP "In Black & White but in Colour" LP which Jamie also made a couple of features on. Big G & Jamie also had their own weekly radio show on XFM, which was a college radio station that broadcasted out to 4 different places in Plymouth & also online.

At this time Jamie also started helping Jibi on his second solo album, "Beyond Words (Jibilicious pt. 2)” which was a follow on from the first album "Jibilicious” Which Jamie had no part in. Jamie helped a lot in the production, mastering, featured a few times on the release & was recorded at Jamie’s home studio.

Jamie, Big G & Jibi entered 2 Plymouth Emcee battle tournaments which both were held at Bar Deep & with Jibi winning both.

Now in the second year for his Btec, Jamie bumped into his childhood neighbour & good friend Dan who he hadn’t seen in 2 years, unknowing that this guy was also another local emcee who goes by the name Caligraphy. Jamie & Dan teamed up for a little side Project under the name Ragnarok, which is the name of a famous Scandinavian legend, & put together a 12 track promotional (Free Downloadable album) “Surfing Side Effects of Sex, Drugs & Hip Hop” which was recorded at Jamie’s also. Later that year Ragnarok got a call from Welsh emcee, Pastor R.Y, to see if they would like to perform at the Central Station club in Wrexham with himself, MC Donny Business from Doncaster & Seek’n’Destroy (Ramathon & Nayfe from Bristol). The performance was terrible with a low turn out & finding out later that the promoter went on holiday not promoting the night but not all was bad because Ragnarok were getting good responses online & also in the Plymouth Hip Hop scene & both decided to add an extra member, Lipz. Ragnarok also appeared in The Evening Herald (local newspaper) with Jibi appearing in the following week’s Edition.

After College Jamie went onto New Deal for Musicians via the job centre, which took him to places such as Bournemouth (Gateway to Music/ Move on Up programme) & Bristol (Music open learning Programme) Here he had support from many musicians & music business persons which helped him put together a business plan to set up his own record label. He then went back to the job centre to move onto a self employment programme with Enterprise Plymouth Limited, but was then refused by the Job Centre due to going up to Bournemouth & Bristol to those music programmes. So Jamie took his business plan to Plymouth’s Prince’s Trust & they had no clue whatsoever what he was talking about & he had finished his 6 months of New Deal so he couldn’t get the support he now needed.

Lipz helped in a lot of the production with Jamie & created many concepts for the new material but decided after 6 songs that his goal was solo stardom & went his own way. Now a member down Jamie & Dan decided to add two new emcees from the local scene into the mix, Jibi & Litro & also DJ RSL.

In 2005 Jamie produced his debut retail album which he independently funded, recorded, produced, mastered & designed, titled “The Sub-Conciousness of my Conscience” in 3 Plymouth outlets; HMV, Bigga Records & Tribal Voice. This album featured all Ragnarok members & 3Paw from a North Devon group named 9th Lyfe. But while the album sales were doing well, Ragnarok was crumbling around the edges & was put on hold. At this time Jamie was recording, producing & featuring on Jibi’s third release titled “The Proposition”. After the completion of Jibi’s solo, a Ragnarok group meeting was called which Jibi proposed that he starts a fresh side project with 2 new emcees on the scene; Magneto from France & Sharp from Italy & also Jamie to create The Alliance. Also at this time Jamie agreed to once again join forces with Dan to make The Bundy Emcees.

As The Alliance were getting booked across Plymouth to do odd gigs (Opened up the first Break Time in The Hub along side Cohorts, Scribes, Lab Rats, Rap Scallions & El Passo) Jamie & Dan planned to make a 20 track album titled “Irresistible rejects” & also a 20 track Mixtape titled “Bootlegs & Shindigs” to give away as a free CD with the purchase of the album so the customer will actually be getting 40 tracks. This was a promotional stunt they thought may work very well.

Jamie helped Jibi once again with the production of his forth release “The Onslaught” along side Kristian Sharp (from A Band on Hope), at his own studio.
The Alliance got their first gig through Southwest music mentors service, performing in Mary Tavvy, which is just on the outskirts of Tavistock.
Shortly after MC Sharp (not Kristian) had to resign The Alliance due to moving cities to live.

In the summer of 2005,  Jamie & members of The Scribes (Lacey, Illiterate & DJ Spinz) & Lab Ratz (Vegas, Grinch & DJ XL) went down to Newquay to perform in the Koola Bar sea front night club along side Exeter’s own Audible Porno, the UK’s 2005 human beat-box champion.

Mario & Jamie, both Alliance members, were booked to perform in the Pilgrimage, Plymouth, for a 21st Birthday alongside DJ’s RSL, Pandamonium & X-Act.

In Mid 2005 Jamie & Dan performed along side UK Hip Hop legend Blade & UK freestyle battle champion Respek BA at a local Hip Hop night in Skiving Scholar where Jamie & Dan had weekly host spots with many other local emcees.

During the end of the year Jamie signed up The Bundy Emcees to myspace.com & using it as a chance to promote their music for cheap & to network. Around this time Jamie also got to work with Magneto to start his solo debut album titled “Magnetism Vol.1”.

In 2006 The Bundy Emcees started making a name for themselves at the local Hip Hop nights at Skiving Scholar, Bar Reef & the Underground in Plymouth. Jamie had a good rep from back when he performed in the Bus Stop (now White Rabbit) for a local night called Real Hip Hop which was twinned with Diversion (Drum & Bass) but The Bundy Emcees local fan base & myspace.com fan base was rapidly increasing which led to them being booked for Break Time in June supporting Blade, Respek BA, Pedigree Chumps & 8 Fold in the Hub. The night went down well with a very good turn out & the live performance went with pure sailing, impressing many who had never heard of The Bundy Emcees. The night was also advertised in the 24-7 magazine, a free full colour information guide on what’s on in the southwest such as music, comedy & theatre. Magneto, Dan & Jamie also performed in Bac Bar, Plymouth, alongside Cornish emcee, Jo Dojo & a band that were jamming at the open mic.

Jamie started working with Jibi & Magneto on The Alliance debut EP, “Grand Entrance” which is still being constructed as well as The Bundy Emcees 2 projects.

The Bundy Emcees also gig around Plymouth with Celtic Rock Band, Mad Dog McRae in places such as The Hub, Plymouth Student Union, The Entrance of Plymouth’s Magistrates Court & some random small festivals in Cornwall.

Jamie finds out that mp3.com has been re-launched & signs up becoming a spotlighted artist in under a week. To top it all off, Jamie decided that it is now time to start a new solo album titled, “I’m Plymish” which will consist of 16 tracks & will be released some time in 2007 independently.

Jamie delayed the new solo album until 2008 & disappeared off the open mic & hip hop circuits in Plymouth due to some drastic personal problems which needed to be dealt with. After his lengthy absence he drops a new 20 track solo album titled “REBELUS MAXIMUS”.

Shortly after his new solo release, he got to work on the next project titled “Calamityville Horror” & changed his emcee name from REBEL 66 to the name of his last album, REBELUS MAXIMUS. This was really a statement to show that he had made a lot of changes in his life after his problems in 2007 & he now had different outlook towards life.

Jamie’s future goals are to get signed by a label so he can make enough money to set up his own Plymouth based Independent record label for many musical genre’s, travel around the world touring & collaborating with other musicians in the music industry, not just in the hip hop genre but such areas such as funk, blues & Progressive rock. But his main goal he holds close to his heart. And that is making his partner & her daughter really proud of him til one day they can leave all their troubles behind them & enjoying a new life together.

Jamie’s influences are Pink Floyd, The Doors, Dizzy Gillespie, Cage, De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, The Prodigy, Atmosphere & Sage Francis.
His hobbies include snowboarding, skiing, Ice Hockey, long distance running, Painting & watching DVDs.
